In Templecombe the Church of England (St Mary's) and the United Reformed Church are working together to provide a fresh expression of church in the form of messy church. The concept is that families come along and take part in creative (messy) activities that are linked to key bible themes giving them the oportunity to explore these ideas together. There is then a short time of worship/celebration before everybody shares a meal.
We held the first messy church event on Saturday 22nd September 2012 from 10:30, as part of the URC harvest weekend celebrations. The theme was Harvest and creation, there were a range of creative activities on offer, we had a short harvest celebration and finally shared lunch.
This was followed on Saturday 1st December to celebrate the start of Advent, Saturday 9th February to prepare fior the start of Lent and the fourth event was held Saturday 30th March to celebrate Easter. We met again to celebrate Pentecost on Saturday 18th May 2013 from 10:30am. Held messy church at the village fete in July and celebrated a year of being messy in September, held a Hero party in October and prepared for Christingle in December.
